Harper PR Helps Hansen Distillery Make History

On a cold February 11, 2017, Kris Sustrik filled a new American Oak barrel with the clear, 100% rye spirit that was fresh off the still that he calls "The Mistress." He had no idea when he filled his first two oak casks that three years later he would become Edmonton's first craft Canadian whisky maker.

On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, the doors opened to a lineup of about 200 people all who eagerly awaited getting their hands on one of the first 500+ bottles of whisky to come from Edmonton.

Hansen Distillery's Northern Eyes Whisky sold out in just over five hours, kicking off the beginning of Hansen's whisky program.

As far as whisky goes, a three-year aged product is considered to be a baby whisky. Enthusiasts and collectors tend to go for those coveted bottles that are 7, 10 or 18 years old. However, in Alberta's very new craft distilling industry, three years is not only significant--it's historic.

Harper PR was proud to work with the Hansen Distillery team for over three years to help plan the launch event, manage media/influencer relations, and support the launch event for the business.

A big thanks to Cory Johnn for helping capture some great photos and video of the launch.

Northern Eyes Whisky casks 1 and 2 are sold out. Bottles from cask 3 will be available starting at Noon MST on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
